Kefalonia Uchideshi 2010

We are now happy to confirm that the September deshi will go ahead and can now be booked, for those wishing to take part in this very special week of training and the meeting of new friends.

For those who wish to immerse themselves in the detailed study of Aikido, this week will not disappoint. Each year students go away with the advancement they have been searching for, the week is intense but not at a pace where from beginner to advance cannot take something away with them.

If you need to know more please contact Tony Sensei with any questions, in the contact area on this site.

September Uchideshi can now also be booked for one week or two.

Our new programme has now been limited to twelve deshi only, this is to give each person Sense's full attention. A £50 none refundable deposit will secure your place on either deshi. No deposit then you are not booked on the deshi.  Sadly this is due to many students letting us down at the last minute in the past

You may pay 'here on the PayPal button' in whatever amounts you choose if it helps; from £25 minimum each time, up to the deshi date. You can also place spending money with us if it helps, or any payment that will help you ease finding the full amount for the intended deshi, all in one go.

Stay for two weeks. See below for full details and extra costs

Try this web site http://flights.thomson.co.uk/en/index.html  The trick to getting the best prices are to wait until the very last minuet. Go to web site put in Kefalonia from your choice of airport then type in 14 people, it will give you a price, but more important if it has seats for 14 you know you can hang on and see if the price goes down nearer the time of travel. We recommend once it will not give you 14 and it is under the ten seats you book and hope the price is better. This is not a way for the faint hearted but it can save you £££££££££  If you live near to several airports check the prices out from them all as the price varies and may be worth the change from where you may automatically think to fly from.

If you need more help with booking flights, please contact Dojo Cho Jane

Thursday September  2nd to Thursday 9th or spend two weeks acclimatising to the climate and relaxed atmosphere, allowing you to have a holiday and just chill.

If you would like to come one week earlier and stay for two weeks. See below for full details and extra costs

A very popular deshi so we advise you to book early. Numbers are limited. You can pay on line 'here' your deposit or even your fees if it helps you spread the payment.

We allow students to come the week before the main Deshi for just £160 which will cover training, breakfast and board only.

The cost per person for the main week is £380 it includes: Training, 3 breakfasts, most lunches and board. (Flight costs not included) normal spending money for extra meals, excursions may cost from £150 to £200 but this is up to each person and is only a guide.

Every year the weeks get filled up very quickly as they offer such good value for money for those who are fully committed to their Aikido study. The Deshi is designed to give the students more than just hard training, it is also to allow students to unwind from the hectic life that most need to get away from.........what a perfect way to achieve this.

The first week gives two hours a day training with Tony Sensei. You can put in as many personal hours as you wish, or just lounge by the pool, beach or go site seeing. It is your choice.Have a rest and acclimatise a week before the main Deshi starts.

A few points to remember for when you come: If you would like to bring pound sterling we will exchange them fro Euros; normally at a better rate than available in the UK.

Essential things to bring: Swim wear, towels, hats or scarf for weapons training, sun screen. Mosquito sprays. Full driving license including green part in case you wish to drive a car.

What is in your package: The training is equivalent to many weeks of training all condensed into one. In the afternoon-breaks you can train, if you would like. Pick up from and to the airport, site-seeing, beach transfers, restaurant transfers. Two-course lunch included most days.

If you wish to use Dojo weapons to save you bringing yours then you must reserve a set with Sensei, by email;  limited stocks

Use of washing machine, no need to bring more than two Gi's.
Free loan of car for those who wish to do their own thing, 'you pay for fuel only'.
There may be other teachers on the seminar who will be teaching alternative classes.

A full detailed time table will be given out at the Deshi or can be viewed on this site, get a feel to what you will be enjoying with your stay.

You may attend as many classes that you wish to take part in, but all are optional including Aikido, Yoga, Meditation and Synergy healing classes.

The idea of these Deshi’s are for one to train as much as they wish, but if the time table is to demanding then we encourage you to spread the training to suit your own fitness level, our aim is to fulfil everyone’s needs, so you will leave happy and refreshed, thus helping in your future growth

On arrival their will be a light meal given and a welcome one hour training at 7pm on Thursday, the night is then a free choice.

For those who have chosen to come one week before the main Deshi; Tony Sensei will teach two one hour classes each day. One in the morning and one in the evening to all those present, the students can ask for the classes to be tailored to what they would like to work on to advance their own Aikido.
These students will be expected to help Sensei for two hours each day to prepare for the main Deshi and the rest of the day will be their free time.

Helpful points on Aikido

The word Aikido means: The Way of Harmony and Spirit. It does not mean learning to fight. It is a self defence art only and is not a competitive sport. It is trained only for your own protection, thus giving you a life of confidence; it can also be a spiritual path, plus it will keep you fit in mind and body. We train with each other, helping our partner to understand how to develop a body that moves with natural movement and not to go against the laws of nature. You will need to train in a very simple way, not fighting your partner, because we can only have one thought in our mind. If you become the attacker with the wrong intentions in your mind you will never reach a great understanding in the art. When you are asked to hold your partners, just hold with full good intentions. When you are asked to strike, just do this; do not add aggressive thoughts thus changing the correct flow of Aikido. Do not make your partner struggle once the movement starts, just go with the movement thus helping them to achieve the technique they are trying to perform. In doing this we can all advance very quickly. We must learn how to take a fall. This is called Ukemi. It means to receive the technique from your partner, allowing you to feel what it should be like when its your turn to carry out the same technique on your partner so you can repeat the same movement with ease. Training in the Dojo is not the same as in the street. Why? Because the real attacker will not be able to take the correct steps to save themselves and they will feel the devastating power that comes from the real thing. If you were to not learn ukemi you could not train because your body would be injured many times over. An onlooker watching may think that the person receiving the throw is jumping, or it is not real. Those who train in the art will soon know that nothing is fake. Always have clean clothes and a clean body when training, and keep your nails (hand and feet) short. This saves cuts to the other students body. If you need to ask Sensei (Teacher) questions, leave them until the class is over. The whole point of training is to watch and train; your first thoughts are the correct ones. To study in this way you will learn much more quickly. If you ask questions all the time you will never work on your own thoughts and feelings and in a real situation you will be too slow because you have become used to someone else making your decisions. A student who trains for three to five years at least twice a week can achieve 1st Dan black belt. It is a very slow martial art to learn, the reason being that you that must become perfect in your mind and body, as you will soon learn in the weeks and months to come. The more you know, the more you will understand how clumsy we all are in flowing movements, especially with speed in the techniques. These are my main points for you to consider. The art is not for everyone and it is not a better art than any other. It will either suit you or not, it is as simple as that. You can do Aikido from any age until any age, but you must do it to your best ability and not someone elses. We all have too much strength in our body and our mind. We are too powerful. This has been inherited from birth and our lifes aim should be to suppress this until it has vanished. If you do not, you will not reach the level of enlightenment that you should be searching for. Remember it is an art for life! Your life and no-one elses, so always train with this in mind. If you need to fight in life find another art. Sensei. Tony Sargeant. 6th Dan Japan.
